OUR STORY

A Taste of Home

We believe in the value of homemade, local food. Piper always says that no matter how bad your day has been, the moment you bite into food made with love you'll feel better. at least until you've finished your meal. This belief and passion is what pushed us to open Piper's Bread.

We value locally grown, fresh ingredients. We like to keep it simple and emphasize quality over anything. All of our bread is made with wheat grown locally in the upper midwest and milled right in the heart of Minneapolis. Check out what we’ve got prepared for you this week or call to set up your customized subscription and have fresh sourdough delivered right to your door!

HOW TO STORE OUR BREAD:

Because our bread is made fresh by hand with just three ingredients it does have a limited shelf life. However due the the natural acidity of sourdough, with proper storage the shelf life is much longer than that of bread made with dried yeast. We recommend storing your bread with the sliced end face down in a paper bag or wrapped with a clean towel to avoid losing moisture from the crumb as the crust slowly stales. Reheating a stale loaf for 10-15 minutes at 250° can restore the fresh taste. If stored in a plastic bag the crust will soften as excess moisture has nowhere to escape leading to a moldy loaf of bread before long. This is okay for one or two days but we do not recommend storing loafs in plastic for any longer than that.

If you don’t expect to finish your loaf before it stales you can place it in the freezer in a plastic bag and thaw it in the oven at 250° for 20-30 minutes for a fresh tasting loaf. You can also pre slice your loaf before freezing and place frozen slices directly in the toaster!
